Acne Remedies

When you have acne, it seems like you can’t get to a remedy fast enough.  But with so many acne remedies available, how can you know which one is the best for your needs?

So many remedies, so many results

The truth about acne remedies is that no single remedy will work perfectly for every single person.  One of the reasons why there are so many acne remedies on the market is that so many different people with acne respond in different ways.  For individual people, then, finding one that works well is often a process of trial and error.

Below are some suggestions to help you navigate through the process of looking for a remedy to treat your acne:

1.Clean skin is a priority. With bacteria being an important factor in an outbreak of acne, it makes sense to concentrate on keeping your skin clean.Creating and sticking to a twice daily routine of gently washing your face with a mild face wash, specifically formulated for acne-prone skin, will be particularly beneficial.

2.Include an anti-acne formula in your routine.Sometimes just keeping your face clean by regularly washing it will take care of your acne. If it doesn’t then move up to a face wash product containing a slightly stronger anti-acne formula.  Good choices include those containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.A stronger formulation may be necessary, but take the time to see what results you get by starting with a milder one.

3.Change your anti-acne formula. There is no guarantee your skin will respond favourably to a particular acne remedy, or that your existing remedy will continue to work well.  If this happens then try switching to a different anti-acne formula; for instance, if you have been using salicylic acid try benzoyl peroxide instead, and if you have been using benzoyl peroxide try salicylic acid instead.

4.Ask your doctor for other options.  If your acne doesn’t respond to these kinds of over the counter acne remedies, pay a visit to your doctor.Your doctor will have a variety of choices of antibiotics and topical creams which can help control your acne.  For many people, spending just a few weeks or months using an antibiotic treatment is enough to get their acne under control and allow them to go back to using over the counter acne remedies.

Time, the great healer

The most important thing to remember about acne remedies is that they do take some time to work.  Don’t expect to magically see 100% clear skin with just a few applications; rather, expect to see gradual improvement over the course of a few weeks. There is always the option of moving up to a more powerful remedy if you are not seeing the level of improvement you want.

Always keep in mind that you may need to consult your doctor if you suffer a negative reaction to any of the acne remedies you try.Do not forget that the many different acne remedies available work in a multitude of different ways.Clean, acne-free skin is within the reach of the vast majority of acne sufferers. While not claiming it’s easy to achieve, it shouldn’t be too difficult either if you follow a few basic steps. Seek professional advice from your doctor or dermatologist and most important of all, follow it and give it a reasonable amount of time to work. If you do, clean skin and increased self confidence are the least you can expect.
